Investment bank Rodman & Renshaw just revealed its new subsidiary called DirectMarkets -- an automated electronic transaction platform to directly link public companies and investors seeking to transact primary offerings of securities, the firm said in a release.
That's the news. Now here's the fun part:
To commemorate the unveiling, DirectMarkets hosted a MASSIVE launch party at Hell's Kitchen venue Espace last night. (If you're a fan of "American Psycho," you'll remember Patrick Bateman went there.)
A source tells us the party, which was attended by the buyside, vendor and brokerage community, was jam-packed. We're told it was very "old school" in the sense that no expense was spared. There was plenty of top shelf liquor and catered food to go around.
But perhaps one of the highlights was the appearance of endurance artist and magician David Blaine.
The illusionist, known for freezing himself in a block of ice in Times Square for more than two days and burying himself alive, didn't do anything too crazy at the party. We're told Blaine mostly did card tricks on stage and then spent a lot of time amongst the crowd doing tricks and taking photos. He was apparently a good sport about interacting with guests all night.
